Givaudan is committed to responsible sourcing practices for turmeric, ensuring local activity and impact. Givaudan has also developed Turmitrace™, a comprehensive programme to select premium turmeric varieties with high curcumin content and resistance to fungal disease. By carefully selecting cultivation partners, bringing technical support and maintaining transparent dialogue and commitment on volumes and prices with them, we ensure full traceability to the field level, visibility and fair incomes for farmers.

Our team of agronomists in Southern India actively promotes good agricultural practices (GAP) and continuous improvement of cropping practices. They provide training on GAP practices and work actively on variety selection through experimental pilot farms and distribution of the best turmeric varieties to our selected farmers. Conducting regular field visits, Givaudan also works closely with local farmers to promote low pesticide usage, reducing environmental impacts.
Through Turmitrace™, every step of turmeric’s journey – from cultivation to final raw material – is monitored and verified. Launched in 2017, the programme focuses on sustainability, quality, and digital traceability, benefitting the environment, local communities as well as the end product.

Working with our local farmers, Givaudan has also started a regenerative agriculture pilot in Southern India where we associated crops including turmeric to showcase how this model can boost biodiversity and soil health while mitigating environmental impacts, including carbon footprint.
We are committed to supporting the local communities where turmeric is sourced. We ensure fair incomes and comprehensive training for our farmers. Conducted via the Givaudan Foundation, a local project was initiated to replace a public primary school with new construction. By investing in education, our sourcing activity contributes to the development and well-being of the local communities for lasting social impact.
