Responsibly sourced, premium quality turmeric roots
Sustainably harvested from March through May in its native region located in southern India, our turmeric grows in a clean environment, far from big cities and pollution.
Givaudan is committed to responsible sourcing practices for turmeric, ensuring local activity and impact. By carefully selecting cultivation partners and maintaining transparent dialogue and commitment on volumes and prices with them, we ensure full traceability to the field level, visibility and fair incomes for farmers.
The company's team of agronomists actively promotes good agricultural practices (GAP) and continuous improvement of cropping practices. They conduct regular field visits, provide training on GAP practices, and work actively on variety selection through experimental pilot farms and distribution of the best turmeric varieties to our selected farmers. This enables us to access high quality turmeric roots with high curcumin content. Givaudan also works closely with farmers to promote low pesticide usage, reducing environmental impacts.
Givaudan has also started a regenerative agriculture experiment in Southern India where we associated crops including turmeric to showcase how this model can boost biodiversity and soil health while reducing the carbon footprint.
In addition to responsible sourcing practices, we are committed to supporting the local communities where turmeric is sourced. Conducted via the Givaudan Foundation, a local project was recently initiated to replace a public primary school with new construction. By investing in education, our sourcing activity contributes to the development and well-being of the local communities for lasting social impact.
